The Seasons Of Your Pilgrimage

The Victorious Life In Christ – From Salvation To Service
Poems For A Closer Walk With The Lord
by Jerry (Gerald) Bouey and others

Foreward

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.

The promise given here is one which should be believed and cherished by every child of God.

My name is Adam Aulin, and I found this to be true when at fifteen years of age, myself and two other friends were involved in a serious motor vehicle accident – an accident which resulted in the fatality of one of my beloved friends and sister in Christ. When one looks circumspectly at the incident: as a passenger in the vehicle, the damage done should have inevitably resulted in the loss of my life as well, but the Lord had different plans.

By God’s mercy, my battered body was pried out of the wreckage and into the ambulance. Life for me at that point was still very questionable, having sustained life-threatening blows to the head and having over 2 1/2 pints of blood lost through damage done to my body. For the next three weeks, whether or not I would live through that whole ordeal was still in question.

However, the Lord sustained me through that time, and through His strength I spent the next several months astounding the doubting doctors by regaining the ability to breathe without assistance, walk independently, and eat on my own. Consequently, for the rest of my life, I will suffer from this severely traumatic brain injury, and my broken body will suffer pain and slight loss of mobility. Nevertheless, the residing effects caused by that accident are minimal in comparison to the miracle in which the Lord performed in saving me from it.

Through all of this, I learned the extreme fragility of life and the importance of seizing every moment of every day, because as the Word of God states, “life… is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.” (James 4:14) This whole experience was one of those things in which Romans 8:28 speaks of; one of those things that worked out together for good in my life.

During that trial and even since then, throughout the many seasons of my life, I have found refuge through reading Jerry Bouey’s poems in this book, and meditating on the truths and Bible promises contained therein. I trust that, as you read them, you too will find the same encouragement and spiritual strength in the Lord Jesus Christ as I have.

Saved to serve,
Adam Aulin

What God Hath Promised

God hath not promised skies always blue,
Flower strewn pathways all our lives through;
God hath not promised sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.

God hath not promised we shall not know
Toil and temptation, trouble and woe;
He hath not told us we shall not bear
Many a burden, many a care.

God hath not promised smooth roads and wide,
Swift, easy travel, needing no guide;
Never a mountain rocky and steep,
Never a river turbid and deep.

But God hath promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labour, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing kindness, undying love.

Dedication

This book of poems is lovingly dedicated to my Mom.

All of Heaven rejoiced in that day you received Jesus as your Saviour.

Through the many seasons of your pilgrimage, my prayer is that you will continue to cling to the Lord Jesus Christ – even in the midst of all the valleys of life. Remember, Jesus is the Lily of the Valleys. He will always be there for you, working out all things according to His perfect plan, making you more like Him, strengthening you and refining your faith until one day you come forth as gold.

One day you will go home and see your Saviour face to face – but until the shadows flee away, keep looking unto Jesus, and keep claiming His precious promises! Not one of them has ever failed (and never will)! (1 Kings 8:56)

Zephaniah 3:17 The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; He will save, He will rejoice over thee with joy; He will rest in His love, He will joy over thee with singing.

Deuteronomy 33:27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.

My Mom is not sinking, she is rising – “Rising In The Arms Of Love”!
