And Such Were Some Of You
From a past full of rebellion and sin,
Against God, your wicked heart was at war;
In faith, one day you turned to the Saviour,
And now you are not like that anymore!
And such were some of you,
But you are not like that anymore;
Something has changed you deep within –
And you are different than before.
A change has been wrought in your spirit;
Brought from death to life by God’s grace;
By Christ’s blood, your sins are all forgiven –
On your account, there’s not even a trace.
And such were some of you –
Out with the old nature, in with the new;
You are a new creature in Christ Jesus –
Let the Word of God transform you!
And such were some of you –
Our sins were the reason Jesus came to die;
Today, let God’s Spirit transform you,
From a lowly worm into a butterfly!

1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Conformed – to be fashioned outwardly like the world. This same Greek word is used in one other passage:
1 Peter 1:14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:
Transformed – to be changed or transfigured from the inside out – to undergo a “metamorphosis” (this is literally the Greek word used here), hence the symbolism used by many Christians of a worm transforming – metamorphosing – into a butterfly. The same word is translated as “transfigured” in Matthew 17:2 and Mark 9:2, as “changed” in the next verse:
2 Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
